Response from ASB regarding nudity in Supre's advertising

 

My complaint fell on deaf ears: the case has already been dismissed.  See below for the ASB's letter.

Dear Ms Orr ,


Thank you for your correspondence complaining about the above advertisement.


The Advertising Standards Board (the Board) considers complaints about advertisements which may breach one or more industry Codes. The list of Codes and issues covered by the Codes are available at http://www.adstandards.com.au/advertisingstandards/codesweadminister/. Issues covered by the Codes include: discrimination or vilification of people; use of offensive language; inappropriate use of sex, sexuality or nudity; unjustified violence; and depictions that would breach community standards on health and safety. The Board also considers a range of issues related to advertising of motor vehicles, food and beverages, advertising to children and environmental claims. The Board uses Section 2 of the AANA Code of Ethics as the basis of its determinations.


The Advertising Standards Board has considered this advertisement previously, and dismissed the complaint. The link to access the final Case Report on this advertisement, is at the end of this letter.


I have sent a copy of your complaint to the advertiser, to advise them of your point of view. If you have requested confidentiality when submitting your complaint, your personal details will not be disclosed to the advertiser.


However details of your complaint may be made available to researchers from time to time to enable the ASB to remain up to date on community attitudes and concerns about advertising. Your personal details are kept strictly confidential and secure. Reports prepared by the researchers will not contain personal details but statistical information only, relating to community attitudes and concerns.

How does the topless thing draw attention to the PANTS?????  Where do these people live????  Even so, the only part of the pants our eyes are drawn to is the girl's backside, and in one of the three photos the pants are hardly visible.  What a joke!

Yes, yes it did tick me off! I agree, it is so stupid, the idea that topless women wearing jeans draws attention to the JEANS. On what planet?

Also, the way that Supre's response is that their product is marketed to 18 year olds and up. Because only 18 year olds go out in public or anywhere near buses. Does that mean their shirts like "Pussy power" etc are aimed at adults also??

The fact that the ASB had already considered it means that other people already complained- meaning it was offensive to other people also!
