I phoned Supre this morning to find out why our members have not received any response to their complaints about the "High Beams" shirts.
It turns out that the woman I spoke to is the one responsible for going through messages sent through the 'contact us' section of the website.
She asked if I was part of a 'group' and I told her that while those making contact were indeed part of a 'group' we are all *individuals* concerned about the sexualisation of girls. She also asked how long it had been since the shirts were seen and I said that a colleague had sent through a photograph she had taken in the last few weeks. She said the shirts had not been available on shelves for about 2 years and that this shirt must have been in the clearance store. (Like that's any better!)
I asked her why Supre had not written back to advise people that the shirts were no longer available in general stores and she said she intended to respond in the next few days. She also confirmed that Karen Hermann (who had previously lied to us about the 'Santa's Bitch' shirts being removed from stores) no longer worked at Supre.
I asked her whether Supre had any standards with regards to what they stock for girls. I don't think she was in a position to answer the question but replied "I imagine they would" and referred to changes perhaps being made after the controversy about the 'Santa's Bitch' shirts last year. I asked her what age group Supre marketed to and she said girls aged 14-20.
All in all, the conversation was very vague and left me with more questions than answers. Lets wait and see if those who have written to Supre get a response and then we'll see what else we can do.
