Julia Symons TODAYS SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

Dear Fellow CS members,  have any of you seen todays SMH - the online version - and in particular the segment about  "Real Madrid star shocked by arrests over photos".  Well the photo accompanying is straight out soft porn.  SMH have finally crossed the line now in my opinion with this one. Please go to www.readerlink@smh.com.au  and register your strong complaint if you agree with my sentiments.  The irony is that if you read the terms and…

Wendy Hanks New meaningful and appropriate music for children

Wendy Hanks - creating music for children

Please listen to my music and play my songs titled Family and Bystander.

The more plays will let me know that there is a calling for my music and parents are tired of the current music that our children (particularly our girls) are listening to.

I am on the journey to record a full album which is ready to be recorded just need funds, as most…

So I am walking to the train station today and happen to walk past a group of year 7 or year 8 boys chatting at the bus stop in front of them hard to miss is a huge poster of a naked lady! well actually correction she has sneakers on and a lot of fake tan...But that's about it when I look closer its the trainer from biggest loser... With the tag line underneath her naked body "learn to love yourself" Ummm #channel 10...teachers and parents have enough trouble keeping pornography off…

Calvin Roy Taylor Typo is running out of creative ideas...

Typo, surely you are creative enough not to succumb to the distasteful and insensitive practice of using sex to sell your products, dehumanizing and objectifying our beautiful woman in the process. Surely you are not that heartless to make this perverted material so readily available, exposing young children and teens to this when they are still discovering who they are as human beings. Please remove the pornographic merchandise from your product line.

Rebecca Jee That's a Typo

Scrolling through my Twitter feed this morning and saw this RT from an acquaintance: "Seriously #typo, how can you think is funny?  twitpic.com/84s5gl"

For a moment, words failed me. And then I couldn't quite believe it.

There had to have been a design meeting on this. People had to have sat around…

David Furse-Roberts Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

In campaigning against the exploitation of children, I am sure that we at Collective Shout would like to think we stand upon the "Shoulders of Giants". That is, following in the footsteps of the great men and women who have gone before us in the charge to protect girls and boys from wanton exploitation and cruelty.

One such giant was the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury (1801-1885), the great Victorian philanthropist and Christian statesman. Known simply as "Lord Shaftesbury", this…

Jacqui Nixon Pussy Energy Drink - update

I spoke with a Journalist about this product. She contacted the distributor that Collective Shout mentioned. Apparently, the product is only available in about 14 shops at this stage but the plan is to roll it out to over 3,000 shops within Queensland. This includes local shops and corner stores! Apparently the distributor's difference is ten years ago people through Virgin was an offensive term! There may be an article about this in the weekend's Courier Mail.

Angela McPherson Channel Seven's 2012 program "Good Christian Bitches" is demeaning and offensive

Channel Seven is promoting a program called "Good Christian Bitches" to air next year.  The title alone is debasing and derisive. Help us to get it off the air!!!

I urge you to lodge a complaint, mentioning some of the following points in your own words:

1.       The term “bitch” is one of abuse.  In parliament, the word directed at a female would be completely…

Wendy Hanks Well done Sportsgirl

On a positive note.... Check out Sportsgirl's "Dream a Little Dream" campaign with beautiful imagery and inspiring messages like Henry David Thoreau's quote "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you've imagined".  Well done to Sportsgirl and Michelle Jank on aiming high and appealing to women's hearts and minds, rather than the usual confidence eroding of body image.

Jessica Holmes Coles Now Selling Adult Magazines At Children's Eye Level

I was appalled on a recent trip to my local Coles. As I wandered towards the check out, I was surprised to see a Maxim Men's Magazine with a Topless Women on the front sitting right at children's eye level. I am appalled that these magazines have sneaked their way into Woolworths and Coles, who are now selling pornography magazines as if they are a common household item. I have complained to Coles but am yet to hear a response.

Maureen Doolan Gaga:The new face of feminism

In response to the post regarding Lady Gaga's perfume launch, which appeared in the usual style of Gaga where mysongyny is celebrated and embraced by women. The rationale behind Gaga and her antics (apart from courting controversy) is that if we own and particiapte in our own degradation women are somehow more sexually liberated and powerful!!!  The inevitable off-shoot of the acceptance of female objectification by women, is the troubling…

Carrie Hagan Lady Gaga's new perfume: a misogynist's dream

So, yeah, Gaga is at it again with her controversial, embrace your individuality, and stick-it-to-the-man antics. I get it: she’s creative and has taught us all about self-expression, blah blah blah. But what’s the deal with her ‘blood and semen’ themed perfume? Apparently it will enable those who wear it to smell like a high-priced hooker after sex. Just imagine if some guy had the bright idea to buy THAT perfume as a gift! I can’t imagine the recipient would be like, ‘Naww…you sure know…

Jacqui Nixon Shop Visit

Hi, I went back to the shop and complained. I advised that given the type of shop it was, one frequented by children and teenagers, that I found the name of the product demeaning, offensive and against the standards our society would regard as acceptable. The female manager advised, "I didn't find the product offensive." I reiterated that it was and that something so offensive should not be stocked. The male partner at that time intervened saying, "You can't blame us for stocking a product!"…

Jacqui Nixon "Pussy" Natural Energy Drink

At my local fish and chip shop a natural energy drink is for sale called, "Pussy" the bi line is, "we're pure it's your mind that's the problem."  This is not an adult shop but one frequented by children and teenagers. I believe the name of this product is against our moral standards, deeming and exploitative. The company should be forced to change its name or be banned.

Leonie Rogers Celebrity worship and the cult of Kardashian

Being slightly behind the times, I've been a little mystified at all of the excitement in the media about the imminent arrival of the (apparently very recently divorced) Kim Kardashian.  While half watching Ten's "The Project" tonight while reading my emails, I was struck by images of a mostly hysterical young girl, overcome with joy at having met the Kardashian sisters - she was so overcome, she couldn't really remember what they'd said, except perhaps "hello" or something else very…

Nicole Theofilos Best & Less 'sexy' Christmas tshirt for kids

Just saw a kids xmas tshirt at Best & Less with a sexily posed, scantily clad elf on it.  Caption reads 'tis the season to be gorgeous'.

It is displayed in a rack with xmas themed baby bibs, baby romper/jumpsuits and other tshirts with obnoxious comments like 'Who needs Santa? I've got credit'.

The tshirt I picked up was a size 8.  It was on the lower rack, at child height, surrounded by other bright xmas colours.  Sizes in the tshirts range from about a size 5…

Choices for Children Committee 2Day FM news broadcaster joking about child sexual abuse

Did anyone else listen this morning (Friday 21 October) to 2Day FM 104.1 during the news update at 7.25am in Sydney?

The female news broadcaster reported on a news story about child sexual abuse in a way that completely made light of the situation, presenting child sexual abuse in a joking and mirthful manner. I have looked at the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice and it has not breached the Code (how the hell was this not in breach.... )

The news broadcaster reported…
