My Collective Shout signature promotion -

I was thinking of a little slogan that may be of use to those of you to whom it applies - I want something to post under my signature on everything I write from now on, to promote the group and…Continue

Greeting cards HIGHLY offensive to women

Another issue is that of greeting cards. In my view, this issue really does hammer home that offense toward women is acceptable. I was looking for one for Dad's birthday the other day and I have…Continue

Denigration of intelligence as well as denigration of women

I am usually irritated by all the rubbish out there, but was horrified at seeing an ad for Beauty & the Geek (by accident, as I don't watch much vapid commercial TV and certainly try to steer…Continue

What does CS think about the idea of T-shirts, badges, stickers etc to promote this social change vehicle? Are there already such things available? If so, where? I am sure there are many more people…Continue

Denigration of intelligence as well as denigration of women

I am usually irritated by things I see everywhere, but I have been seeing the odd ad for Beauty & the Geek (by accident, as I don't watch much vapid commercial TV and certainly try to steer clear of the even stupider ads) and tonight, while watching a great sci-fi film, I saw an ad for it that made me shudder. It showed your typical Playboy bunny type in bikinis- that of course is female beauty, so they tell us - and "geeks", that is, I take it, men characterised by intelligence -…

Is Collective Shout for people of all persuasions?

Posted on October 13, 2010 at 11:25am 22 Comments

I am an atheist and Pro-Choice supporter. Given that there are certain views in the public sphere that this organisation might be a vehicle for the religious right, I need to ask - is it a site open to people of all views to come together collectively for the anti-exploitation campaigns at face value? Does the organisation welcome diversity? Are there other members who share my views, or is the site a club with a hidden agenda? I would like other members of my particular persuasion to contact… Continue

Hi Meg. I would like to discuss. Currently I devote a lot of my spare time to another organisation. I have only recently sign up for CS but have known MTR for some time thru other channels. I'm not sure of what a bluestockings meetup group is?

Sorry I am so late in replying. I visited this website after hearing about it on Q&A and it ended up as a bit of one-off. I agree with your comment re lingerie/underwear. Much of the underwear for boys also have inappropriate sayings such as "beast" on it - heartily fed up with the nonsense that goes on in regard to children. Saw your other comment. I am also an atheist with a healthy respect for religion and pro-choice. I was heartened to see that reports like the one put together by the Australia Institute about the sexualisation of children. Cheers, Evie
