How to use this site

The purpose of Collective Shout's 'community' site is to provide a way for supporters to stay connected with the latest news, blog posts, campaigns and with other members of Collective Shout. It is through community that genuine grassroots action occurs. Here are a few tips to help you use the site to it's full potential. First, you'll need to Sign up to the community. (To the right of the page) We ask you for a few details when you sign up, to determine that you are a human and not a computer that wants to spam us with advertising. You are encouraged to use your real name, but we don't mind at all if you use a nickname or initials.

Your Profile

Once you've signed up, click on "My page" in the top horizontal menu. Here you will find your own personal profile, which looks like this:

Your profile will have your name at the top. You can let other members know what you're up to by typing in the "What brings you here?" field and clicking on 'Update.' On the left hand side you can change your personal details or photo by clicking on "Manage my page or photo." There is also the facility to share your profile on twitter and facebook. This is a great way to let people know of your involvement with Collective Shout.

Blog

Collective Shout members have the option of writing their own blog. If you click on "BLOGS" in the top horizontal menu, you can see the blogs others have written. We encourage you to read and leave comments on the blogs of others. It is great to give and receive feedback.

The purpose of the blog is to share information about yourself and your views. For example, you can share about the work you are doing which relates to Collective Shout's purpose; your thoughts about current events, news and articles. When you've completed a blog post, remember to share it on any other networks you belong to, such as facebook or myspace.

Forum

You can find the forum by clicking on "FORUM" in the top horizontal menu. The Forum is where you can quickly update the community with articles and news. You can also use it to ask questions and seek input from the Collective Shout community. To use the Forum click on "+Add a discussion" or get involved in other discussions by posting responses to them.

Groups

Groups are a way for people with similar interests or locations to connect with each other. For example, we have a group called "Collective Shout Sydney." Other organisations can start groups on the site to let members know about their activities, for example we have "Choices For Children Committee." You can join a group someone else has created or start a group of your own. Once you have started your own group you have the facility to message all members of the group to let them know of any local events or issues that are specific to your group. ie. Sydney events for "Collective Shout Sydney."

Multimedia

Click on "MULTIMEDIA" in the top horizontal menu. You have two options in the drop down menu, Photos and Videos.

Photos

You can upload photos of yourself and your activities, such as events you've organised or attended. Most mobile phones have cameras these days, it's a great idea to take photos of products and advertisements the Collective Shout community should be aware of. This creates awareness and assists other members with knowing where to spend their money (and where not to). Simply click on "+Add Photos" and follow the steps.

Videos

Collective Shout members can share videos they have created themselves or link to videos from other video sharing services such as You Tube and Vimeo. This can include advertisements, both good and bad; inspirational and educational videos. Simply click on "+Add a video" to upload or share a video.
